For this remodel, I had the pleasure of working closely with a wonderful pair of homeowners, alongside our amazing project partners at A-1 Restoration Inc.
To give this kitchen both character and visual depth, we focused heavily on rich textures and complementary finishes.
For the cabinetry, I selected Marquis Cabinetry and decided to mix two distinct wood species:
-
Perimeter Cabinets: We chose Pecan Knotty Alder for the outer walls. Its deep, rich tones and natural graining bring a warm, grounded feel to the room.
-
The Island: To make the island feel like a custom furniture piece, we finished it in Capri Drift Rustic Beech. The soft, lighter finish creates a gentle contrast while keeping the space open and inviting.
To bring everything together, we paired the cabinetry with sweeping Blue Dunes granite countertops. The dramatic, fluid veining across the stone catches the light beautifully and adds just the right touch of organic warmth to tie the two wood finishes together. It created an ideal layout for prepping meals, serving, and chatting around the island.
Every choice in this kitchen was made with real life in mind—from the flow around the workspace to the way the materials interact throughout the day. Collaborating with the team at A-1 Restoration made the entire execution seamless, allowing us to turn every detail of the design plan into reality.
I put so much heart into this project, and seeing how much the homeowners love their new space makes every bit of work worth it!
