I’m thrilled to share the details of one of my favorite kitchen remodels, set in a charming 1960s home! This project was truly special, and I was honored to work with homeowners who had a clear vision of embracing mid-century modern kitchen design while maintaining the character of their home.
Warm Wood Tones and Sleek Lines
The heart of this design was capturing that timeless mid-century modern aesthetic with a fresh twist. We started with custom cherry cabinets from Dura Supreme Cabinetry. The rich, natural wood tone not only fit the mid-century vibe but also added warmth and depth to the space. To give it a modern contrast, we paired the cabinetry with sleek matte black pulls by Schaub Hardware. I love how these two elements create a balanced look that feels both retro and modern at the same time. The clean lines of the cabinetry, combined with the bold hardware, are classic yet contemporary, which really reflects the essence of mid-century modern design.
Bold and Playful Tile Backsplash
One of the most exciting elements of the project was the tile backsplash. We went with a full-height design, which adds a dramatic flair and becomes a real focal point in the kitchen. The homeowners wanted a pop of color, so we selected tiles that bring energy and fun to the space without overwhelming the overall aesthetic. It was the perfect way to add a bit of playfulness while staying true to the sleek lines and minimalist feel of the mid-century modern look.
Custom Quartzite Countertops with a Twist
The countertops were another standout feature in this remodel. We selected stunning quartzite with waterfall edges on all four sides of the island, and one of the edges is asymmetrical, giving the kitchen a unique and custom look. This asymmetry added such an interesting touch and became a talking point in the design. It also brought in the homeowner’s personality and input, as they worked closely with Bryan, our lead granite installer, to ensure every detail was perfect. I love how this part of the kitchen feels both artistic and functional. It’s a great example of how a small detail can make a big impact!
Blending Old and New
The homeowners and I were on the same page in creating a space that felt inviting and cohesive. They wanted to honor the home’s original design while incorporating their own modern touches. The end result is a kitchen that blends mid-century modern sophistication with warmth and comfort. The space feels timeless, with its clean lines, warm wood tones, and beautiful craftsmanship.
A Joyful and Rewarding Transformation
This project was a joy from start to finish, and seeing the final result was incredibly rewarding. It’s always exciting to create a space that not only meets the practical needs of a home but also reflects the personality and style of the homeowners.
